Section Scholarship Award Recipients

AWS CENTRAL ARKANSAS SECTION SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Dear Section Members and Friends:

The Central Arkansas Section awarded 2 Scholarships in July for two very deserving individuals.

Section Chairman Steve Belew, Hannah Rawlings Scholarship Recipient and Welsco President Chris Layton The Welsco Stephen E Harrison Scholarship for $1500 went to Hannah A. Rawlings who is a senior at Bryant High School. Hannah maintained a 3.57 GPA and her future plans are to attend Arkansas Elite Welding Academy. Hannah says, “My objective in following this career is to focus on plant and factory shut down welding, traveling wherever I am needed”. Ron Hubbard from Bryant High School recommended Hannah and says, “Hannah is one of his most dependable students and always has innovative ideas”. Jason Scoggins provided a second recommendation and said, “You will not find a more honest, incredibly positive, and very mature young lady who carries herself with an air of confidence without being arrogant”. Congratulations to Hannah and we look forward to seeing her grow in the industry.

National Parks Instructor Dennis Pickering, Jeffrey Estright and Section Chairman Steve Belew The John Bailey memorial scholarship was presented to Jeffrey A Estright. Jeffrey served in the Air Force and is attending the National Park Community College at night. Jeffrey is the proud father of two girls and strives to excel in the welding industry. Jeffrey works a 40 hour week at Xpress boats as a GMAW and GTAW welder all while attending college and being a full time dad. Jeffrey has maintained a 3.63 GPA and Dennis Pickering from National Parks College recommended him for the scholarship. Dennis said, “While in my class, Mr. Estright has routinely been one of my best students. He has an excellent attitude and a thirst for knowledge.” Jeffrey also had a second recommendation from his current employer Express boats. Jonathan Foster said, “Jeffrey displays a thirst for knowledge and has continued to develop skills required to advance within our company.” Congratulations to Jeffrey and we look forward to seeing you thrive in the welding industry.
