The AWS Holston Valley Section will be hosting a section meeting and High School Welding Competition on the 2nd of March, 2024.
This event will start around 9:00 AM and will consist of two sections.
We will start off the day with some time to just meet and greet each other and follow that with presentations from industry professionals.
All attendees other than industry speakers and sponsors must be current AWS Members. Any AWS Members who wish to attend to observe or attend the meeting should RSVP using the link with this announcement. RSVP for competitors and attending teachers is not required.

7:30 AM – 8:30 AM-Shop Open For Practice
9:00 AM – 9:30 AM-Meet and Greet
9:30 AM – 11:00 AM-Presentations
Presentation 1:Will Hoskins-Eastman Chemical, Kingsport TN
Will Hoskins is a Materials/Metallurgical Engineer at Eastman Chemical Company. Will holds bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Tennessee in materials science engineering with an emphasis on ferrous welding metallurgy. At Eastman, his primary responsibilities include choosing materials for equipment in corrosive and high temperature applications, providing expertise on equipment fabrication/welding, being a subject matter expert for non-destructive examination, and providing guidance on challenging pressure equipment repairs.
Presentation 2: Various Industry Speakers will speak to attendees about their experiences in the welding industry. This is an informal presentation with each speaker providing about 5-10 minutes of information.
11:00 AM – 11:45 AM Lunch and Pre-Contest Meeting
11:45 AM – 2:15 PM Contest
12:30 PM – 3:00 PM Judging and Awards- Judging will begin as groups complete assigned welds. Contestants must be present to receive awards.
