Announcement from new Section Chair – Joseph A. Tufaro, CWI

Greetings AWS members:

It’s been a while since we last issued a section newsletter, since just before the start of the pandemic, so a little over two years.  We wanted to get this one out so we can update you with our goals going forward. The pandemic had a lot of adverse effects on many businesses and organizations in which we were no exception. The Mahoning Valley Section of the American Welding Society over the past couple years have lost executive committee members and officers due to retirements, layoffs, job relocations and company closures but we still have a core group of officers that include a chairman and treasurer. To revitalize our section, we are asking for volunteers to help with the goal of filling some officer positions such as first, second vice chairs, secretary, and executive committee positions. The executive committee is like a board of directors a company or business may have which assists in short- and long-term activities within our section as well as advise the officers. The first and second chair positions serve as assistant to the chairman. If you have a genuine interest in participating in our section activities, we kindly ask you to reply to the emails or phone numbers to the contact below.

As for our short-term goals we are currently planning to have a section meeting in October which we may hold at one of the local career centers and have a guest speaker that can address the students or anyone else in the audience about post high school opportunities in welding education. Once plans are finalized, we will be sending out a general newsletter with further details.

Again, please let us know if you have any interest in volunteering in our section where we can continue to hold true to the American Welding Society’s mission statement: To advance of the science, technology and application of welding and cutting processes.

Sincerely,

Chairman
