Welcome Everyone both AWS Members and Guests!

The focus for this month’s meeting is on Shipyard Welding.  Come learn what a career as a shipyard welder could look like or maybe even pick up some new tricks and techniques.

We are grateful to Alma Bryant for hosting us.  We are especially thankful to Anthony Faggard and Josh Sparks who have volunteered their time to share some of their knowledge and skills with us.  Students will have the opportunity for some hands on welding with FCAW and ceramic tape backing. Please bring your PPE!

Pipe Welding Processes in Shipbuilding:
Anthony Faggard, Pipe General Superintendent at Ingalls, will provide a presentation focused on pipe welding.  He will cover some of the different welding processes used, weld joint details, process safety, and special techniques necessary for welding in a shipyard.

Structural Hull Welding in Shipbuilding:
Josh Sparks, Hull Welding Foreman at Ingalls, will provide a presentation focused on structural hull welding.  His presentation will be focused on the usage of FCAW for structural groove welds.  Josh will cover proper weld joint preparation, equipment settings, and special weld techniques necessary for welding on ceramic backing.  Josh is going to provide a live demonstration of ceramic tape welding.
