A Lifetime of Accomplishments
(Listed in a Somewhat Chronological Order)

Preface:  Tony is the only guy I know that went to college before he even graduated from 8th grade, but he’s no ordinary guy!

DWS serves industry in teaching, testing & qualifying welders, writing Welding Procedures, performing GTAW on stainless steel manifolds, specialty materials, such as Yorcalbro Alumbro and hardsurfacing the ends of fork lift blades to increase service life and many other one of a kind challenges.

DWS has donated to the New Orleans Section Fishing Rodeo at the Carbon Steel Level at the Carbon Steel level for many years.  His love for welding students is foremost as he donates grinders, Tools and AWS Literature to increase their skills and knowledge at most every membership meeting with students in attendance.

Delgado Trades & Technical Institute

Tony earned the “Electric Welding” Diploma in July 1960.
Tony earned the “Acetylene Welding” Diploma in July 1960.                                                                                         

United State Air Force Service

At the age of 15, he joined the Civil Air Patrol, (under the Jurisdiction of the USAF).

While in the Air Force, he was assigned to the U-2 Spy plane & the T33 (single engine), both had the T38 jet engine.

At the age of 17, he signed up for the USAF & being under age he had to have his father’s signature.

He proceeded to take AMF431X1 Technical Order 00-20A-1 Certification Course completed March 1961.

Also completed certification in the Driver Training Course APR32-17 in Sept 1961.

Also completed certification in AMF43171-4 Technical Order 00-20A-1 Course in Sept 1961.

Tony received a USAF Certificate of Recognition by Coronel A. F. Taute at Laughlin AFB in Texas for his suggestion “LAU 119-62M – Accidents cause by MD-3 Power Units” in August 1962

He received an Honorable Discharge of Airman 2nd Class Anthony J. DeMarco, Regular Air Force on 11 October 1962.

United Association of Journeymen & Apprentices Education Accomplishments

Tony entered the Pipefitters and Plumber’s Union as an apprentice to learn to become a “Certified Welder” in 1962.

Tony completed his 5 year apprenticeship program in Dec. 1967 and continued his  Education with the UA in conjunction with Purdue University “Instructor Training Program.”

He also successfully completed the course at Purdue University of “Advanced Safety Development Program” – Aug. 1971                                                                      

During the intensive 6 year program with 1 week/year at Purdue University, Tony earned a National Certificate as a “Certified Instructor of Journeymen & Apprentices,” which encompassed SMAW, GMAW-SC & GTAW, for any Union associated training program in the USA, August 15, 1975.

Tony has been a dues paying member Local  60 & received membership certificates for 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, & 50 years as of Jan. 2013.

Southern Heater Co., Inc. Required Course

Tony successfully completed & received a Certificate in “Basic Electricity & Gas Controls in June 1970.

Dale Carnegie Course

He mastered the course of “Effective Speaking & Human Relations – Sept 1971

Hobart School of Welding Technology

Tony attended the Hobart course of “Welding Technology for Supervisors & Engineers” garnered the highest grade in the class- May 1974

He continued years later with “Advanced Aluminum Welding Technology” – March 2017.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

Tony passed the requirements of Quality Control in Welding operations- Nov.3, 1994       

Delgado Community College

Tony returned to participate in the “MIG Welding – Proper Operation of Equipment” course and received a Certificate of Completion in April of 1974

Tony returned to participate in the “OSHA Orientation” course and received a Certificate of Completion in April of 1975

U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve – LA.

Tony received a Certificate for “Dedication to Duty & County” on May 1986.

During his employment with SPR, he was called on to go down into the Salt Mines on Weeks Island, LA to observe that the procedures were being followed.

This required him to board an elevator and descended until the entry way at the top of the shaft was a very small opening.  After he reached bottom, he got off and went to another elevator and went down some more to reach the working level.  

These same salt domes are where this administration wants to bring up this reserve oil to help ease prices at the gas pump.

NDT Technical Services, Inc.

ASNT – NDT Training Program – Liquid Penetrant Inspection – Feb. 1987.

He successfully completed the course “Industrial Radiographic Film Interpretation.” – Nov. 1988.

MCA – Mechanical Contractors Association – LA.

He studied and completed the “Copper Joining Procedures” course in 2005.

Gas Technology Consultants, Inc.

Tony helped in the development of the course, both in classroom & practical lab for “Medical Gas Pipe Brazing & NFPA 99-1993” – Mar. 1994.

He also received certificates of completion for the courses “Oxygen Piping Systems Hazards.” – Aug & Sept 2004

Received a Course completion certificate for “Introduction to Gas & Vacuum Systems” – 2005

Received a Course completion certificate for “Fire Prevention in Welding & Hot Work” – 2005

State of Louisiana Community & Technical College Systems (LCTCS)

Tony received his “Certification of Apprenticeship Completion” in Dec. 1967.                                                        

Anthony J. DeMarco received his Graduate Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) from East Jefferson High School on March 25, 1980.                                                                                                                                    

He received his ‘Welding Certification” in May 1980.

He has been the Student Affair Representative for several Louisiana Technical Colleges and the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union for years.

Jefferson Parrish Vocational Technical School respectfully appointed him to the “Welding Craft Committee” in Jan. 1981 to present.

LCTCS finally recognizes Anthony J. DeMarco on behalf of the NCCER for completing the “Instructor Certification Training Program” – Dec. 2015

American Welding Society

Tony became a Member of AWS in 1974 and has received his 25 Year Silver & 35 year Life certificates as of 2009.

Tony originated the idea for the AWS N.O. Section Student Welder Competition and has actively served as a Chairman for first few times.

His Lead (Pb) Welding expertise has been shown at least one Electro polishing Tank w/Lead Liners and Lead steam piping for leak proof operation and demonstrated in at least one AWS Membership meeting and several college campus’ and is documented in Past President Ed Bohnart’s latest edition of Welding Skills and Practices book.

The AWS New Orleans Section established the Anthony J. DeMarco & Bruce Hallila Scholarship in recognition of the devoted service by these two Life Members.
