This was a hybrid meeting with only 8 students, 2 advisors and 2 representatives in attendance for social distancing guidelines put forth from the school. So, we got creative with this year’s kick off meeting! We streamed it to roughly 14 new AWS student members who could not attend in person due to restrictions. We were unable to serve food this year and that hurts meetings; so this year we raffled off two Jackson Welding Helmets (one to someone present and one to someone that wasn’t for fairness purposes. We arranged for Delille Oxygen to come in and give a safety presentation on the proper uses of gases, how to store and how dangerous Oxygen actually can be and this was by far my best meeting. They students were interested and engaged even in this new situation. I cannot thank everyone enough that helped us accomplish our goal of even having our kickoff meeting, let alone how well our turn out. Thank you to Evelyn Andino at the AWS, Kevin and Cindy from DeLille Oxygen, Anthony Duris from Owens/AWS and all the new student members.
