AWS Rochester Section 2019 Annual Welding Competition

The AWS Rochester Section hosted another annual welding competition for high school students from around the region! This competition included two seniors and two juniors from each of the six local BOCES career and technical centers. This involved Finger Lakes, Wayne, Eastern Monroe, and WEMOCO Career and Technical Education Centers, as well as Mount Morris and Batavia CTE Centers. Student’s skills were tested through rigorous practical examinations and evaluated by Certified Welding Inspectors. The event was held at the Mount Morris CTE Center and featured both cash prizes and scholarships for the top students.

Chandler Stevenson, from the Mount Morris Career and Technical Education Center, took first place overall! He won a $14,500 scholarship to Mainliners Welding Academy in Texas along with prize money. Congratulations to Chandler and the other winning competitors. Many thanks to all the educators, judges, sponsors, and volunteers who made this event possible. Special thanks to Scott Lord and Josh Padlick from the AWS Rochester Section for all their coordination and planning.The top competitors are as followed:
