Presentation of West Michigan Section Student Chapter Member Award

July 7, 2021; Lincoln Electric Training Facility – Cleveland, OH

Phil Temple Director District #11 presented to Leah Jodoin the West Michigan Section Student Chapter Member Award for 2020. Leah was nominated by her fellow students and faculty from Ferris State University where she graduated in 2020. During her time at Ferris State University she was an officer of the student section and actively solicited student members and updated the Sections rules of operation. The presentation was delayed due to Covid-19 in 2020 so after her graduation the award was presented at her new employers facility, the Lincoln Electric Training Facility in Cleveland Ohio.

Leah is a new hire in the Lincoln training program for new engineers. The award was presented in front of her fellow new engineering hires. A short talk was given by District Director Temple to the trainees about why Leah was given the award and their potential leadership in the field of welding as trained welding specialists. As leaders they will be looking for guidance and knowledge and the contacts they make with fellow AWS members are trusted sources for information. Participating in AWS Sections and later on the national stage through technical committees can directly impact their lives professionally and personally. Leadership skills learned through AWS involvement is transferrable in all that a person does.

The assistance of the Lincoln Electric Company training facility staff is greatly appreciated for making arrangements.
